Bob
Butler was born and raised on Oahu and educated at Hawaii Preparatory
Academy on the Big Island. He relocated to Kauai after his tour
of duty in Vietnam in 1971. Back then, Hanalei was a sleepy fishing
village where you could turn onto Kuhio Highway without glancing
in either direction. The roads, all named for fish and crabs were
simple dirt roads. Captain Bob took visitors sailing on his first
6-pack boat, named "Hihimanu". She was all sailing (no
motors). Bob earned the name Captain Sundown in those early days.......ask
him the story when you're on the boat! Seven children and 30 plus
years of open ocean sailing later has tamed Captain Sundown......a
bit. Captain Sundown is still sailing Kauai. He is the most
experienced tour boat Captain on the island and knows the wind,
the water and the coastline better than most. His safety record
is impeccable. When you sail the Na Pali with Captain Sundown, you're
in the best hands on the island. You're with Captain Sundown.

HIS
BOAT...
"Ku'uipo"
is a sleek new 40ft sailing catamaran. Built in Hawaii for Hawaiian
waters, she's swift and stable. With her hulls spread 20 feet
apart she literally surfs the ocean. Dolphins often challenge
themselves by bow riding along side her brilliant white hulls.
Her 50hp engines lift right out of the water to reduce friction
when she's under pure sailing power. So stable it's been said,
"You can keep a can of soda upright on her decks your entire
tour!"
